GRIDIRON GURUS: Week 9

in Predictions

PUTTING IT ON THE LINE: Picking Texas high school playoff games, the NCAA National Championship, as well as the NFL Wildcard Playoffs

It’s do-or-die time at every level of football competition.

As we head down the home stretch of the 2020 football seasons, THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus will continue picking the Class 6A and 5A high school football playoff games as they play their respective State Semifinals week, along with the NCAA college football National Championship game as well as the NFL Wildcard playoff games.

This season, THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick’ems panel consists of newcomer Don Nicholas, Field Representative for U.S. Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25), while Meridian Yellowjacket football head coach Wade Morton, The Sports Buzz  photographer David Harding and The Sports Buzz’ Brett Voss return from last year.

For the record, Don and Brett prevailed last week by finding success picking the College Bowl winners. But amazingly, both panelists produced the week’s best records without managing a single exclusive pick between them.

With that said, Wade clung to his narrow overall season lead with three exclusive winners in the Class 6A & 5A State Quarterfinals, picking Duncanville over Desoto, Cedar Hill over Rockwall-Heath, and Crosby over Fort Bend Marshall.

In the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys (6-10) fittingly blew their season finale against the New York Giants (6-10), making losers of everyone on the panel. But in the end, it didn’t matter as the Philadelphia Eagles (4-11-1) benched quarterback Jalen Hurts in the fourth quarter to gift the game and the NFC East title to the Washington Football Team (7-9).

That’s right, football fans. Believe it or not, a team without a name won the NFC Least with a losing record. It’s been a very strange football season.

Join us every Thursday throughout the rest of the 2020 football season as THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick their winners for the week’s high school playoff games, your favorite college teams from the NCAA Div. I, Div. II and Div. III, as well as the state’s two NFL teams, the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, and more through the playoffs to Super Bowl LV.

Be sure to make your picks as well!
