in Predictions

PUTTING IT ON THE LINE: Picking Heart of Texas high school football games, NCAA college football games in Texas, as well as the Cowboys & the Texans

With a full slate of games scheduled at all levels of high school, college and professional football, THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick’ems panel must sort out the high school district races across the Heart of Texas, solve the puzzle of college teams bouncing up and down the national rankings, and figure out which NFL team will win on any given Sunday.

Throughout the rest of the 2021 football season, THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick’ems panel will test their luck picking a slate of high school football games across the Heart of Texas, a selection of Texas college football games, as well as matchups involving the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.

Joining THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick’ems panel this season will be Toney Rogers, a local business owner in the Heart of Texas, while Don Nicholas, Field Representative for U.S. Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25), Meridian Yellowjacket football head coach Wade Morton and The Sports Buzz’ Brett Voss return from last year.

After suffering through back-to-back rough weeks, Wade (31-11) came roaring back to win the week on the strength of an impressive run picking the college football games, missing on only four of 21 selections. With Wade reclaiming the overall runner-up spot, Brett (28-14) stayed on top after a strong week picking the high school games with Don (27-15) nipping at his heels and Toney (23-19) struggling.

Join us every Thursday throughout the 2021 football season as THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick their winners for a select group of the week’s high school games, your favorite college teams from the NCAA Div. I, Div. II and Div. III, as well as the state’s two NFL teams, the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.

Be sure to make your picks as well!

With Heart of Texas Class 3A, 2A & 1A district races heating up under the Friday night lights, The Sports Buzz Game of the Week features surprising Cranfills Gap hosting Morgan in District 12-1A, DII showdown

As we head into Week 8 of the 2021 Texas high school football season, the district races for Class 3A, 2A and 1A squads across the Heart of Texas begin to take shape and heat up with some crucial matchups this week.

Under the Friday night lights, THE SPORTS BUZZ Game of the Week will turn its focus on the all-Bosque County District 12-1A, Division II six-man football battle as the youthful and surprising Cranfills Gap Lions (1-0 in district, 4-3 overall) host the 2020 district champion Morgan Eagles (0-4) at 7 p.m. Friday. Injuries have plagued Morgan throughout the non-district schedule, but the Eagles should be at full strength to take on the frontrunning Lions. The Sports Buzz On The Air will be on location in Cranfills Gap shooting video highlights and interviewing the winning coach to be posted Saturday.

In other Heart of Texas six-man action, the Class 1A, DI’s third-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (7-0) will open District 15-1A, DI play with a road trip to face the challenging Evant Elks (4-3).

In Class 2A action, DI’s fourth-ranked Crawford Pirates (2-0, 6-0) visits the Rio Vista Eagles (1-2, 3-3) in a District 7-2A, DI matchup, while the Valley Mills Eagles (1-2, 3-4) visit the Bosqueville Bulldogs (2-0, 4-2), and the Hamilton Bulldogs (2-1, 5-2) host the Tolar Rattlers (1-1, 4-2). Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart Panthers (1-0, 6-0) will visit the Bremond Tigers (1-0, 2-4) in the District 10-2A, DII action.

But when it comes to Class 3A action, DI’s seventh-ranked West Trojans (3-0, 7-0) hosts the undefeated Whitney Wildcats (2-0, 3-3) in the first showdown of the District 11-3A, DI top dogs, while the eighth-ranked Grandview Zebras (3-0, 6-1) travel to Dallas to take on the A+ Academy Knights (0-2, 1-5), while the 10th-ranked Lorena Leopards (2-0, 4-2) visit the McGregor Bulldogs (0-3, 2-4) in District 11-3A, DI action.
