GRIDIRON GURUS: WEEK 24

in Predictions

PUTTING IT ON THE LINE: With a wild & thrilling ride on the road to Super Bowl LVI, Los Angeles Rams & Cincinnati Bengals become unlikely foes in the big game

(FINAL SCOREBOARD UPDATE: 10:45 p.m., Sunday, February 13, 2022)

Following arguably the most exciting and competitive three rounds of postseason games in National Football League history, it created the unlikely scenario of the fourth seeds from both conferences advancing to Super Bowl LVI.

Knocking off the AFC defending champion Kansas City Chiefs (14-6), the fourth-seeded AFC North champion Cincinnati Bengals (13-7) advanced to the title game to face the NFC West champion Los Angeles Rams (15-5) following their dramatic victory over the surprising divisional rival San Francisco 49ers (12-8).

But first, the best from the AFC and the NFC will line up to play in the Pro Bowl at 3 p.m. Sunday Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Before announcing his retirement, Tampa Bay Buccaneer quarterback Tom Brady set an NFL record with his 15th Pro Bowl selection.

Eight NFL teams are sending at least five players to Las Vegas, led by the Indianapolis Colts with seven, followed by The Kansas City Chiefs (six), Los Angeles Chargers (six), Baltimore Ravens (five), Cleveland Browns (five), Dallas Cowboys (five), San Francisco 49ers (five) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (five).

THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick’ems panel remains focused on the NFL playoffs following the unprecedented 17-game regular season. Throughout the NFL postseason, THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick’ems panel will put their expertise and experience to the test by picking the NFL playoffs on the road to Super Bowl LVI at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Joining THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick’ems panel this season will be Toney Rogers, a local business owner in the Heart of Texas, while Don Nicholas, Field Representative for U.S. Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25), Meridian Yellowjacket football head coach Wade Morton and The Sports Buzz’ Brett Voss return from last year.

With all four prognosticators going with their own version of picking a favorite and an underdog, Wade (1-1) almost got his wish of seeing a rematch of the 1989 Super Bowl between San Francisco and Cincinnati. On the other hand, Brett (1-1), Don (1-1) and Toney (1-1) missed on defending AFC champion Kansas City repeating, but nailed the Los Angeles Rams winning the opportunity to play the Superl Bowl in their home stadium.

Join us every Thursday throughout the 2021 football season as THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Gurus pick their winners for a select group of the week’s high school games, your favorite college teams from the NCAA Div. I, Div. II and Div. III, as well as the state’s two NFL teams, the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, and the postseason all the way to Super Bowl LVI.

Be sure to make your picks as well!
