RISING TO THE TOP: WEEK 7

With a little bit of movement among the state’s top 10 rankings, the Heart of Texas still claims nine places among the elite in the polls

Moving into the seventh week of the 2024 Texas high school football season, Heart of Texas squads held their own among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.

Coming out of the first six weekends of the season, the Heart of Texas region claims nine teams among the state’s best, including Class 4A, Division I’s Stephenville Yellowjackets (5-1) dropping two spots to No. 4 after a 63-17 loss to Ruston (La.), while Class 4A, DII’s sixth-ranked Robinson Rockets (4-1) held firm with during an idle date.

Although the region does not have a state-ranked team in Class 3A, the Class 2A, DI’s Hamilton Bulldogs (5-0) held on to its spot at No. 10 with an open date, while Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart Panthers (4-1) handed the Chilton Pirates a convincing 30-7 district loss.

Teams ranked in the six-man football Top 10 include Class 1A, DI’s second-ranked Abbott Panthers (6-0) strengthening their hold with an overwhelming 66-0 victory over Hillsboro Hill County, sixth-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (4-1) remaining idle with a cancelled game, and the eighth-ranked Aquilla Cougars (6-0) remaining undefeated with an impressive 80-38 victory over Bynum.

In the Class 1A, DII poll, Iredell Dragons (4-2) moved up a spot to No. 8 with a resounding 51-6 win over Class 1A, DI’s Gholson, while Oglesby Tigers (4-2) climbed another spot to No. 3 by crushing Marble Falls Faith 62-12.
