With minimal movement among the state’s top 10 rankings, the Heart of Texas still claims nine places among the elite in the polls
Moving into the eighth week of the 2024 Texas high school football season, Heart of Texas squads held their own among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.
Coming out of the first six weekends of the season, the Heart of Texas region claims nine teams among the state’s best, including Class 4A, Division I’s Stephenville Yellowjackets (5-1) held on to No. 4 with an open week in the schedule, while Class 4A, DII’s sixth-ranked Robinson Rockets (5-1) held firm with a convincing 41-6 victory over Lorena Leopards.
Although the region still does not have a state-ranked team in Class 3A, the Class 2A, DI’s Hamilton Bulldogs (6-0) held on to its spot at No. 10 with a hard-fought 21-14 victory over winless Coleman, while Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart Panthers (5-1) handed the Wortham Bulldogs a 36-6 defeat.
Teams ranked in the six-man football Top 10 include Class 1A, DI’s second-ranked Abbott Panthers (6-0) idle last week, sixth-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (5-1) posting an overwhelming 58-13 victory over Miami, and the eighth-ranked Aquilla Cougars (7-0) remaining undefeated with a solid 50-28 victory over Coolidge.
In the Class 1A, DII poll, Iredell Dragons (5-2) moved up a spot to No. 7 with a resounding 60-0 win over the Morgan Eagles (2-5), while the Oglesby Tigers (5-2) solidified its hold on the No. 3 spot with a commanding 42-0 victory over Mullin.
