2019 HEART OF TEXAS FOOTBALL AREA PLAYOFFS
The Texas high school football playoffs featured a full slate of Area Playoff games across the Heart of Texas region under the Friday night lights as THE SPORTS BUZZ was on location at Waxahachie’s Lumpkins Stadium for the Class 3A, Division II Area playoff showdown fourth-ranked Gunter Tigers (11-1) held off a second half surge to eliminate the Clifton Cubs (8-4), 27-14, while ninth-ranked Rogers (11-1) rolled over Jacksboro (8-4), 46-14.
In Class 3A, Division I action, Whitney (11-1) whipped Franklin (7-4), 27-7, while defending state champion Grandview (11-1) outscored East Chambers (10-2), 43-29.
In Class 2A, DI action, defending state champion San Saba (12-0) stormed to a 54-6 victory over Collinsville (6-6), while perennial powerhouse Crawford (9-3) crushed Honey Grove (10-2), 35-18, and Class 2A, DII defending state champion Mart (9-3) blanked Detroit (7-5), 53-0.
In Class 1A, DI action, two state-ranked teams fell as Saint Jo (11-1) knocked off ninth-ranked Avalon (11-1), 52-22, while Nueces Canyon (10-2) edged eighth-ranked May (10-2), 66-62. In Class 1A, DII action, third-ranked Richland Springs (11-0) slipped by seventh-ranked Calvert (7-4), 34-29, while 10th-ranked Oakwood (8-4) eliminated ninth-ranked Blanket (9-3), 60-20.
