MOODY – Competing in their first meet of the season, the Clifton boys and girls cross country team brought home some hardware from the Moody Bearcat Invitational last Friday.
Senior Daniella Gaona claimed the individual bronze medal with a time of 13:06.8 to lead the Lady Cubs to a sixth place finish as a team. Sophomore Kasandra Gaona finished 23rd, followed by sophomore Kamryn Zint 28th, junior Autumn Estrada 43rd and senior Sutton Finney 56th.
The Clifton boys placed 10th as a team, led by the 24th place finish of sophomore Jorge Rodriguez, followed by junior Jordan Rodriguez (46th), junior Aude Cano (47th), senior Luke Cockrell (53rd) and junior Cameron Bateson (55th).

“We’ve been practicing since August 1, so it’s good to finally start having some competitions,” Clifton cross country coach Ryan Hunt said. “I feel good about where we are. It’s early, so the thing I try to stress to the kids is where we want to finish the year at. Our goal is to be running our best when October rolls around.”
Next up, the Clifton boys and girls cross country teams will compete at the Valley Mills Invitational this Saturday.
