District 17-3A: CLIFTON Cubs 62, McGREGOR Bulldogs 46

THE SPORTS BUZZ Game of the Week featured a showdown for control of their postseason destiny as the Class 3A Clifton Cubs knocked off the McGregor Bulldogs, 62-46, to open the second round of District 17-3A competition Tuesday night at the Clifton High Gymnasium.

After losing their district opener to McGregor, 48-42, before the holiday break, the Cubs (5-3 in district, 18-6 overall) flipped the tables on the Bulldogs (4-4, 11-17) by building a 27-point lead with 4:17 left in the game. Senior Seth Payne led Clifton with 22 points, followed by senior Griffin Phillips with 14 and sophomore Bradin Yates with 13, while sophomore Andres Devora dished out six assists and grabbed three steals.

With the win, Clifton took over sole possession of fourth place, trailing Lorena (8-0, 14-13), Whitney (6-2, 18-9) and West (6-2, 14-8) as the Cubs seek their first playoff berth since 2005.
