2023 The Sports Buzz Game of the Week
Week 3: CLIFTON CUBS 33, BOSQUEVILLE BULLDOGS 14

THE SPORTS BUZZ Game Of The Week featured the Class 3A, Division II Clifton Cubs (2-1) running away with the win in the fourth quarter over the Class 2A, Division I Bosqueville Bulldogs (0-3), 33-14, Friday night in Bulldog Stadium.

After basically playing a stalemate through three quarters, the Cubs trailed 14-13 before making several game breaking plays in the fourth quarter. Senior fullback Riley Finney broke tackles on his way to the go-ahead touchdown with 5:24 left in the game, then it became all Clifton.

On Bosqueville’s next possession, Finney stripped the ball from a Bulldog runner and senior running back Parker Tunnell capitalized on the turnover for another score. Both Finney and Tunnell scored two touchdowns apiece, Tunnell led the Cubs with 165 yards rushing, and Finney led the Clifton defense with 10 tackles.

Week 2: CLIFTON CUBS 33, RIO VISTA EAGLES 0

THE SPORTS BUZZ Game Of The Week featured the Class 3A, Division II’s Clifton Cubs blanked the Class 2A, DI Rio Vista Eagles, 33-0, on Homecoming Night Friday at Cub Stadium.

Senior wide receiver Andres Devora hauled in two touchdown passes from junior quarterback Joaquin De La Hoya, while senior fullback Riley Finney and senior running back Parker Tunnell ran for scores as the Cubs (1-1) dominated Rio Vista (0-2).

THE SPORTS BUZZ Game of the Week featured the Class 3A, Division II Clifton Cubs falling to the Merkel Bearcats, 26-14, in a neutral site non-district season opener at Bob & Norma Cervetto Stadium in Dublin.

Scrimmage: CLIFTON CUBS at WEST TROJANS

THE SPORTS BUZZ Game Of The Week featured the Class 3A, Division II Clifton Cubs visiting the Class 3A, DI’s 15th-ranked West Trojans for the first scrimmage of the 2023 Texas high school football season Friday night at Trojan Stadium.

Clifton scored first after senior running back Parker Tunnell weaved through traffic for a 60-yard run to the West one-yard-line. Three plays later, junior quarterback Joaquin De La Hoya connected with senior wide receiver Andres Devora on a five-yard slant in the end zone for the touchdown.

The Trojans responded by methodically marching down the field as junior running back Connor Elston capped the drive with a six-yard scoring run.

Both Clifton and West’s second-team offenses exchanged scores as well as Clifton senior Levi Knox broke off a 70-yard touchdown run on the Cubs’ second possession after West’s backups scored on their opening possession.
