VALLEY MILLS – Snapping the eight-match winning streak of Class 2A’s ninth-ranked Valley Mills, the Clifton Lady Cub volleyball team took their game to the next level with a 3-1 victory over the Lady Eagles last Friday in Valley Mills.
Winning for the fourth time in their last five matches, the Lady Cubs (11-11) surged to a hard-fought 25-21 to snap a two-set split in the third set before carrying the momentum to victory over Valley Mills (13-4).
“We were pleased with the way we played,” Clifton volleyball’s first-year head coach Paige Poth said. “The second game, we had too many serve receive errors, but the girls responded to the challenge well in the next sets.”

Looking to extend their successful run, the Lady Cubs will play host to Hico beginning at 5 p.m. this afternoon before traveling to Lampasas this Friday.
“Offensively and defensively, we did good things,” Poth said. “Overall, the girls are really improving every day, and our ability to find runs and push back after a challenge is presented is phenomenal.”
The Lady Cubs open District 17-3A play Sept. 13 by hosting Harmony Science Academy. The power-packed district also includes Class 3A’s 22nd-ranked West (20-4), 24th-ranked Maypearl (11-5), Grandview (11-5), Whitney (17-9), Rio Vista and Keene.
