LAMPASAS – Winning their third consecutive match, the Clifton Lady Cubs powered past the Hico Lady Tigers in straight sets, 25-17, 25-12, 25-16, at home Tuesday.
“We were all excited and pleased with our performance against Hico,” Clifton volleyball’s first-year head coach Paige Poth said. “Our consistency was good, and we did a great job controlling our errors.”
Looking for their sixth win in the last seven matches, the Lady Cubs (12-11) will travel to Lampasas today to take on the Class 4A Lady Badgers to wrap up their non-district schedule.

“Our offense is growing more and more every day,” Poth said. “The girls have a great mindset on defense and it shows.”
After taking a week off, the Lady Cubs will open District 17-3A play Sept. 13 by hosting Harmony Science Academy. The power-packed district also includes Class 3A’s 13th-ranked Maypearl (19-6), 22nd-ranked West (21-4), Whitney (17-9), Grandview (13-6), Rio Vista (10-8) and Keene.
