“Being the last game in the first round, our game Friday is an important one,” Clifton volleyball’s first-year head coach Paige Poth said. “It can be a turning point for us in finding our way back into the ranks.”

The Lady Cubs (2-4, 15-16) took a blow when the Rio Vista Lady Eagles handed Clifton a decisive 25-18, 25-12, 25-21 straight set loss on the road Tuesday. With the win, Rio Vista (3-3, 13-12) moved into a fourth-place tie with Grandview (3-3, 16-12) for the district’s final playoff spot. Clifton needs to knock off Whitney (4-2, 26-11) to climb back into striking distance.

“We knew going in that the district would be a fight to the finish line,” Poth said. “It is packed with lots of competition and great teams.
