CLIFTON – A new beginning allowed the Clifton Lady Cub volleyball team to get back to where they want to be as the Lady Cubs opened the second round of District 17-3A competition with an overwhelming straight set victory over Waco Harmony Science Academy Tuesday to snap a five-match losing streak.
After battling to a 25-12 win in the first set, the Lady Cubs (3-5 in district, 16-17 overall) buried Harmony in the next two sets, 25-9, 25-5, to secure the win. With the victory, Clifton moved into a tie for fifth place in district, just a game out of a playoff berth as the Lady Cubs host Keene (1-7, 3-18) today at 4:30 p.m.
“The Waco Harmony Game went great,” Clifton volleyball’s first-year head coach Paige Poth said. “ The girls had a great chance to try out new things, and it looked promising for this new round.”

















and sophomore Ava Anderson led the Lady Cubs with nine kills and 13 service aces while coming up with seven digs, senior Josephine Burke also nailed nine kills, sophomore Kamryn Zint delivered eight service aces, senior Audrey Anderson led Clifton with 10 digs, and junior Bailey Ledbetter contributed a team-high 18 assists
“In the first round, we went five with Keene and it was a well fought battle each side. It is an important game for us in keeping ourselves in the run for playoffs.”
In other District 17-3A action today, Class 3A’s fifth-ranked West (8-0, 32-4) plays host to Waco Harmony Science Academy (0-8), 11th-ranked Maypearl (7-1, 28-7) visits Grandview (3-5, 16-15), and Rio Vista (4-4, 14-14) travels to Whitney (5-2, 27-11).
