PLAYING WITH THE BEST: Jackets draw All-District 11-2A, DII honors

December 21, 2019

MERIDIAN – Playing in a district dominated by the three-time state champion Mart Panthers, accolades in District 11-2A, Division II are hard to come by. So when two Meridian Yellowjackets drew second-team honors while three more received honorable mention, it was time to stand up and take notice.

Meridian senior offensive lineman Zade Kendall and junior punter Victor Orozco received second-team selections, while junior quarterback Dylan Poole, freshman halfback Brady Taylor and Kendall as a defensive lineman drew honorable mentions.

“All four boys deserve the recognition,” Meridian football’s first-year head coach Wade Morton said. “Not only for their play on the field, but also for their commitment and how they conduct themselves off of it.”

Mart won the Class 2A, DII state championship by beating Hamlin, 25-20, Thursday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
