SHOWDOWN SURPRISE: Cubs drop crucial contest to Keene, 50-40

CLIFTON — In a showdown to snap a tie for fourth place in District 17-3A, the Clifton Cub boys basketball team fell to the Keene Chargers, 50-40, last Friday night in the Clifton High Gymnasium.

Coming off a dramatic 51-49 road victory over West last Tuesday, the Cubs could not find the answer in the crucial contest against the Chargers. Clifton (4-5 in district, 16-9 overall) now travels to Grandview Tuesday to take on the league-leading Zebras (9-0, 17-12) at 7:30 p.m.

Against Keene, senior TJ Ferch led the Cubs with 16 points, followed by senior Everett Sadler, junior Luis Rodriguez and sophomore Alex DeLaHoya with six apiece. Ferch also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds while Rodriguez and Sadler collected nine boards each.

In other District 17-3A action Last Friday Tuesday night, Grandview buried Rio Vista, 103-43, Maypearl defeated West, 50-30, and Whitney crushed Waco Harmony, 78-10.

Tuesday’s district matchups include Maypearl (8-1, 15-7) visiting Keene (5-4, 11-10), Whitney (6-3, 10-11) traveling to West (3-6, 13-13), and Waco Harmony School of Innovation (0-9, 0-12) hosting Rio Vista (1-8, 7-18).
