SLIVER OF HOPE: Cubs vie to keep playoff chances alive at Rio Vista

RIO VISTA — Hoping to keep their slim postseason chances alive in District 17-3A, the Clifton boys basketball team travels to Rio Vista today as the Cubs (4-6 in district, 16-10 overall) take on the Eagles (2-8, 8-18) at 7:30 p.m.

After opening the second round of district with a dramatic 51-49 road victory over West, the Cubs lost their second straight game to playoff contenders when district leader Grandview rolled to a 76-48 win over Clifton Tuesday night.

In other District 17-3A action Tuesday night, Keene doubled up Maypearl, 48-24, West knocked off Whitney, 69-58, and Rio Vista smashed Waco Harmony School of Innovation, 67-27.

Friday’s district matchups include league-leading Grandview (10-0, 18-12) visits second place Maypearl (8-2, 15-8), Keene (6-4, 12-10) battles Whitney (6-4, 10-12) for third place, and West (4-6, 14-13) hosts Waco Harmony School of Innovation (0-10, 0-13).
