PLAYING FOR PRIDE: Lady Cubs look to finish last two games strong

RIO VISTA — With two games left in the District 17-3A regular season, the Clifton girls basketball teams looks to finish strong as the Lady Cubs (4-8 in district, 13-18 overall) travel to Rio Vista today to take on the Lady Eagles (2-10, 3-15) at 7:30 p.m.

Losing their fourth straight game on the road, the Lady Cubs  challenged the 14th-ranked Grandview Lady Zebras before taking a 60-47 loss Tuesday night.

Senior Kamryn Kettler scored a team-high 17 points, followed by senior Sutton Finney with 12. Senior Josephine Burke pulled down five rebounds, while senior Naomi Sedberry dished out four assists.

“I am proud of the team’s fight and effort in the Grandview game,” Clifton girls basketball head coach Whitney Holdbrook said. “Our team is still working hard every day in practice to prepare for the next game. They are improving skills daily, and I look forward to seeing this in the next two games.”

In other District 17-3A action Tuesday night, West knocked off previously state-ranked Whitney, 68-55, in a battle to break a tie for third place, Maypearl sank Keene, 52-22, and Rio Vista knocked off Harmony School of Innovation.

Other district matchups Friday include 14th-ranked Grandview (11-1, 27-4) visits second place Maypearl (10-2, 23-6), Whitney (8-4, 25-7) hosts Keene (4-8, 9-12), West (9-3, 24-7) travels to Harmony School of Innovation (0-12, 1-13).
