CLASS 1A FRIDAY FLASHBACK
WEEK 7: With the Jonesboro Eagles falling in their final non-district game, the Heart of Texas no longer has representation in the Class 1A six-man state polls
With only four weeks remaining in the 2020 Texas high school football regular season, all Class 1A six-man teams will be playing district games under the Friday night lights across the Heart of Texas region.
The previously undefeated and state-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (6-1) dropped their final non-district game to Class 1A, Division I’s third-ranked Borden County, 77-31, to get knocked out of the state rankings. With the undefeated Evant Elks (4-0) now leading the way after an 72-52 non-district victory over Gordon, District 15-1A, DI will feature the showdown between the two top dogs this week.
After opening District 12-1A, DI play last week with an impressive 47-0 victory over the Penelope Wolverines (0-1, 4-3), the undefeated Abbott Panthers (1-0, 7-0) will have an open date this week. In District 11-1A, the Covington Eagles (1-0, 3-3) soared to the top of the standings with a hard-fought 45-41 victory over the Avalon Eagles last Friday night.
In Class 1A, DII district action last week, the the youthful Walnut Springs Hornets (1-0, 5-2) stung the Cranfills Gap Lions, 50-18, to dethrone the defending District 12-1A, DII champions last Friday night, while the Gustine Tigers (1-0, 4-3) edged the Three Way Braves, 76-74, to move to the top of District 11-1A, DII with the Strawn Greyhounds (1-0, 5-2), who sprinted past the Bluff Dale Bobcats, 70-6.
