CLASS 3A FRIDAY FLASHBACK

October 22, 2020

WEEK 8: With district races taking share in the Heart of Texas, battles for postseason berths appear headed down to the wire

Although some clear frontrunners have emerged, the four Class 3A districts in the Heart of Texas region appear to be shaping up into some wild races to the finish with three weeks remaining in the 2020 Texas high school football regular season.

Tightening its grip at the top of the Class 3A, Division I state poll, the defending state champion and second-ranked Grandview Zebras dispatched the West Trojans, 58-14, in what had been billed as the battle for the District 7-3A, DI title. In the meantime, Dallas Madison shocked the Whitney Wildcats, 40-22, to move into postseason contention.

In District 11-3A, DI, the Lorena Leopards pounded the McGregor Bulldogs, 41-14, to move into a three-way tie for first place with Rockdale and Troy as Little River-Academy, Cameron Yoe and McGregor lurk only a half-game behind.

At the top of the District 5-3A, DII race, the Eastland Mavericks knocked the Comanche Indians from the undefeated ranks with a convincing 31-17 victory. And in District 13-3A, DII, the Clifton Cubs suffered a hard-fought 41-23 loss to undefeated Buffalo, while the Rogers Eagles shocked the Lexington Eagles, 33-27, to keep the battle for third and fourth place a tight three-team battle.
