WEEK 9: Key district clash between state-ranked Crawford traveling to Bosqueville lives up to billing as Pirates hold on for 27-20 victory

Facing their toughest challenge of the season, the Class 2A, DI’s seventh-ranked and undefeated Crawford Pirates passed the test with a hard-fought 27-20 victory over the playoff-bound Bosqueville Bulldogs in the Heart of Texas region’s marquee game of the week.

In other Class 2A, DI action last week, the Tolar Rattlers knocked off the Rio Vista Eagles, 24-14, to move into a second place tie with Bosqueville, setting up this week’s showdown for the runner-up spot in District 7-2A, DI, while the Bruceville-Eddy Eagles notched their first district win, 49-19, over the Moody Bearcats to stay in the postseason chase in District 12-2A, DI.

Thanks to on-again, off-again Covid-19 precautions in District 10-2A, DII, the scheduling became chaotic in an attempt to make-up postponed games.

With two games on tap for the Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked and three-time defending state champion Mart Panthers coming out of an open date, the Panthers dismantled Wortham, 63-0, in an unusual Monday night football game.

Also coming off an open date, the playoff-contending Hubbard Jaguars will also play two games this week, beginning with a hard-fought 26-15 victory over Frost Monday night.

After being forced to postpone their home game against District 8-2A, DII co-leading Cross Plains due to a positive case on the team, young upstart Meridian Yellowjackets suffered a surprising 17-0 road loss to the Hico Tigers last Thursday night to put their District 8-2A, DII postseason chances in jeopardy.
