CLASS 3A FRIDAY FLASHBACK
WEEK 9: With two district titles still up for grabs in the Heart of Texas, do-or-die situations prevail in the race for playoff berths
Two district titles and an array of postseason berths remain up for grabs in the four Class 3A districts in the Heart of Texas region as teams head into the home stretch with only two weeks remaining in the 2020 Texas high school football regular season.
Without playing a down, the Class 3A, Division I defending state champion and second-ranked Grandview Zebras managed something they did not accomplish last season, winning the District 7-3A, DI title following a forfeited win over Dallas Life Oak Cliff. In the meantime, the West Trojans moved into second place with a convincing 31-7 victory over previously undefeated Dallas Madison, and the Whitney Wildcats remained in the playoff picture with an overwhelming 54-0 win over Dallas a+ Academy.
In District 11-3A, DI, the Lorena Leopards remained in a three-way tie for first place with Rockdale and Troy by knocking off the perennial powerhouse Cameron Yoe Yoemen, 28-20, while the McGregor Bulldogs moved into the driver’s seat to claim a spot in the postseason during their open week on the strength of Little River-Academy losing at Rockdale.
In Class 3A, Division II action last week, the Comanche Indians moved into a tie for second place in District 5-3A, DII with a 26-15 win at Millsap, while the Clifton Cubs used their open week to get ready for the stretch run in District 13-3A, DII looking for their seventh straight trip to the playoffs.
Once again this season, THE SPORTS BUZZ provides award-winning coverage of the 2020 Texas high school football season, focusing on Class 3A, 2A and 1A schools in the 10-county Heart of Texas region — which includes Bosque, Comanche, Coryell, Erath, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Johnson, McLennan and Somervell counties.
