Class 1A, DI State Semifinal: No. 1 MAY 50, No. 3 ABBOTT 48
THE SPORTS BUZZ Game of the Week featured the the Class 1A, Division I’s the top-ranked and undefeated May Tigers held off the third-ranked Abbott Panthers, 50-48, in a wild state semifinal matchup Saturday night at Dublin’s Bob & Norma Cervetto Stadium.
With the win, May (14-0) advances to the Class 1A, DI state championship game for the second straight season to take on the eighth-ranked Westbrook Wildcats (10-4) at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Despite enjoying a 30-16 advantage at halftime, the Tigers could not put Abbott away. With momentum shifting in the Panthers’ favor early in the fourth quarter, Abbott (13-1) scored 16 unanswered points to take a 40-36 lead with 7:36 remaining to set up a shootout until the final gun.
