Recapping Week 1 of the 2022 NCAA college football season, a slew of Texas programs – led by the sixth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, the 10th-ranked Baylor Bears and the up-and-coming Texas Longhorns – opened with solid starts giving fans plenty to look forward to in the weeks and month ahead.

No. 6 TEXAS A&M Aggies 31, SAM HOUSTON STATE Bearkats 0

After a lengthy delay due to lightning and rain, the sixth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies rolled to an imperfect 31-0 victory over the Sam Houston State Bearkats Saturday afternoon at Kyle Field in College Station.

Although the Aggies never managed to get their running game going, quarterback Haynes King completed 20 of 31 passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns despite tossing two interceptions. Senior wide receiver Ainias Smith caught two long scoring strikes, finishing with six catches for 164 yards.

Limiting Sam Houston State to only 198 yards total offense, the Aggie defense notched its first shutout since the third game of the 2021 season, blanking New Mexico, 34-0.
