DRESS REHEARSAL: Clifton boys & girls gear up for district in Hamilton

October 9, 2019

KEENE – Before taking a week off to be fully rested for the District 17-3A Cross County Championship meet to be held Oct. 16 at Rex Callicott Park in Keene, the Clifton boys and girls teams competed in the Mona Gloff Invitational at the Perry Country Club in Hamilton last Wednesday as their final dress rehearsal for district.

Led by fourth-place medalist Daniella Gaona, the Lady Cubs looked strong behind Kasandra Gaona (34th), Kamryn Zint (42nd), Sadie Sanders (52nd), Kaitlyn Amundson (53rd) and Brianna Prescher (60th). The Clifton boys were led by Jorge Rodriguez (28th), Cameron Bateson (39th) and Luke Cockrell (49th).

“This was our last race before the district meet,” Clifton cross country head coach Ryan Hunt said. “We’ll come back with a solid week of practice next week and be ready to go.  We know we’ll have to be at our very best at district and I’m looking forward to see the kids rise to the challenge.”

In the Junior High Division, the Clifton 8th grade boys claimed the team championship behind the strong trio of medalists — Clay Kennedy (2nd), Jesus Lopez (3rd) and Eddie Gaona (4th). Blake Cockrell captured a fifth-place medal in the 7th grade boys division, while Lady Cub Jocelyn Ramirez placed sixth among the 7th grade girls.
