STREAKING INTO DISTRICT: Lady Jackets carry momentum into 10-2A

January 10, 2020

FROST – Building momentum to head into District 10-2A play, the Meridian girls basketball team won its fourth straight as the Lady Jackets posted a convincing 40-29 road victory over the Frost Lady Polar Bears Tuesday night.

Meridian (14-8) opens District 10-2A competition by visiting Hico to take on the 15th-ranked Lady Tigers (18-3) today at 6:15 p.m., while DeLeon (6-6) visits Goldthwaite (10-3), and Santo has an open date.

“Hico is a well-coached team that has several good experienced players on their team,” Kendall said. “Playing in Hico is always tough and us not being completely recovered from injuries is going to make it difficult. But it’s not impossible for us to come home with a win. It will be a good matchup.”

With senior Dakota Cassidy back on the court for the first time coming off an ankle injury, the Lady Jackets clung to a 29-26 lead before putting Frost away in the final period, outscoring the Lady Polar Bears, 11-3.

Senior Reese Errington led Meridian with 14 points and three assists, followed by Cassidy with eight points, seven rebounds and a team-high eight steals, while senior Jada Crawford tossed in seven points, dished out three assists and pulled down a team-high eight boards.
