STRUGGLING SLIDE: Lady Cubs drop third straight in Keene

in Girls Basketball

KEENE – Battling throughout a defensive struggle, the Clifton girls basketball team came up short of the road Tuesday night, falling to the Keene Lady Chargers, 34-25, in a District 17-3A matchup. The Lady Cubs (1-3 in district, 10-13 overall) will try to snap a three-game losing streak when they host 19th-ranked Grandview (3-1, 19-4) today at 6 p.m.

Sinking only 10 of 33 shots from the field, the Lady Cubs struggled to score early, trailing 18-7 at intermission. Clifton outscored Keene, 18-16, in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the first half deficit.

Sophomore Kynli Bearden led the Lady Cubs with eight points, followed by senior Daniella Gaona with six and senior Dacey Dietiker with five. Senior Josephine Burke dominated the boards, pulling down a team-high 11 rebounds. Against West last Friday, senior Kamryn Kettler led Clifton with 12 points.

In other District 17-3A action Tuesday, Whitney defeated Harmony School of Innovation, Maypearl edged West, 54-47, and Grandview rolled over Rio Vista, 59-21. Friday’s district games will feature Keene (2-2, 7-6) at Maypearl (3-1, 16-5), 11th-ranked West (3-1, 12-4) visiting seventh-ranked Whitney (4-0, 21-3), and Rio Vista (1-3, 1-9) hosting Harmony (0-4, 1-5).
