TIME OUT: Lady Jackets look for first district win after week off

January 20, 2020

SANTO – Opening District 10-2A competition with back-to-back losses to state-ranked teams, the Meridian Lady Jacket girls basketball team will take a week off following a 59-25 loss to 25th-ranked Santo last Tuesday night.

Meridian (0-2 in district, 14-10 overall) will be looking for its first district victory when the Lady Jackets visit DeLeon (1-2, 7-8) Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.

Santo jumped out to a 12-6 first quarter lead before pouring in 20 points in the second period to build a commanding 32-10 advantage before intermission.

“The Lady Jackets fell to a very strong Santo team,” Meridian girls basketball head coach Jill Kendall said. “Just wasn’t our night.”

Senior Dakota Cassidy led Meridian with nine points, while senior Jada Crawford pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, senior Reese Errington dished out four assists and senior Mallory Paruszewski grabbed three steals.

In other District 10-2A action Tuesday night, DeLeon slipped by 14th-ranked Hico, 34-32. Friday’s matchups featured 22nd-ranked Goldthwaite knocking off Hico, 52-30, Santo taking down DeLeon, 40-25, while Meridian had an open date.
