LOOKING AHEAD: Cubs open second round on the road at West

WEST – After wrapping up the first round of  District 17-3A play with an impressive 70-13 victory over the Harmony School of Innovation last Friday night, the Clifton Cub boys basketball team opens the second round on the road as the Cubs (3-4 in district, 15-8 overall) take on West (3-4, 13-11) today at 7 p.m. in a key matchup to remain in control of postseason possibilities.

Against Harmony (0-7, 0-10), the Cubs jumped out to a commanding 19-5 first quarter and never let up. In fact, Clifton only allowed three points in the second half, shutting Harmony out in the final period.

Led by seniors TJ Ferch and Seth Williams with 15 points apiece, four Cubs scored in double figures, including sophomore Griffin Phillips with 13 points and sophomore Alex DeLaHoya with 10.

In other District 17-3A action last Friday night, first place Grandview crushed West, 104-33, Maypearl edged Whitney, 54-48, and Keene knocked off Rio Vista.

Tuesday’s district matchups include Grandview (7-0, 15-12) visits Keene (4-3, 10-9), Rio Vista (1-6, 7-16), travels to Whitney (4-3, 8-11), and Harmony hosts Maypearl (6-1, 13-7).
