CLASS 1A FRIDAY FLASHBACK

October 8, 2020

WEEK 6: Going into district competition, Jonesboro, Evant, Abbott stand alone as the only remaining undefeated six-man football teams in the Heart of Texas region

With almost a full slate of Texas six-man football district games on tap this weekend, only three Class 1A three teams — Jonesboro, Evant and Abbott – managed to remain undefeated going into league play after last Friday’s final non-district games across the Heart of Texas region.

Class 1A, Division I’s ninth-ranked Jonesboro Eagles cruised to a convincing 60-14 win at Bryson, while the 25th-ranked Evant Elks stomped Blanket, 52-28, at home Friday night. In marquee game of the week, the 15th-ranked Abbott Panthers skinned the defending state champion Blum Bobcats, 73-28, before an enthusiastic home crowd.

In one of the most exciting six-man games last week, the Division I’s Bynum Bulldogs outlasted the Division II Cranfills Gap Lions, 49-42, on Homecoming Night in The Gap, while the DII Walnut Springs Hornets gave their homecoming crowd plenty to cheer about with a dominating 76-28 victory over the DI Lingleville Cardinals last Saturday night.
