CLASS 3A FRIDAY FLASHBACK

October 9, 2020

WEEK 6: Defending state champion Grandview avenges 2019’s only loss to district rival Whitney

Avenging their only loss during the 2019 Class 3A, Division I state championship campaign, the second-ranked Grandview Zebras made an emphatic statement with a dominating 65-8 victory over the defending District 7-3A, DI champion Whitney Wildcats last Friday night, while the West Trojans opened district by blanking Dallas Life Oak Cliff, 55-0.

In District 11-3A, DI, the McGregor Bulldogs came up short in a heartbreaking 45-42 loss to Little-River-Academy, while the Troy Trojans surprised the Lorena Leopards, 49-41, last Friday night. But the marquee game of the week proved to be no contest at all as the Rockdale Tigers crushed the Cameron Yoe Yoemen, 42-9, in the 66th Annual Battle of the Bell.

While most of District 5-3A, DII remained idle with an open week before beginning league play, District 13-3A, DII’s seven-team race began to take shape as seventh-ranked Franklin rolled over the Riesel Indians, 63-21, while the Buffalo Bison remained undefeated with a convincing 61-26 victory over Florence, and the Roger Eagles ran past the Clifton Cubs, 43-7.
