WEEK 8: In a Texas high school football season already like no other, the Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart records two wins in one week

On paper, it appeared to be a busy week for Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked and three-time defending state champion Mart as the Panthers notched not one, but two District 10-2A, Division II victories.

But thanks to Covid-19 precautions sidelining four of the six district teams last week, the Panthers accepted a forfeited win from Frost before reshuffling the schedule to overwhelm the Hubbard Jaguars, 77-0, last Friday night.

The pandemic took its toll elsewhere as well as the young upstart Meridian Yellowjackets were forced to postpone their home game against District 8-2A, DII co-leading Cross Plains due to a positive case on the team.

In Class 2A, DI action, the seventh-ranked Crawford Pirates dominated the surprising Rio Vista Eagles, 47-0, to remain in a first-place tie with the Bosqueville Bulldogs, who grounded the Valley Mills Eagles, 68-7, last Friday night. And decimated by injuries and Covid, the Hamilton Bulldogs were no match for the Tolar Rattlers, losing 44-8.

But not to be undone, the Bruceville-Eddy Eagles were forced to postpone their District 12-2A, DI clash with Thorndale due to Covid precaution measures, while Rosebud-Lott slipped by the Moody Bearcats, 34-27, as the Cougars collected with first district win.
