CLASS 3A FRIDAY FLASHBACK

November 3, 2020

WEEK 10: Key games led to most playoff spots already being secured in the Heart of Texas, but some berths still up for grabs

With four Class 4A district in the Heart of Texas region, three district titles and eight postseason berths were wrapped up heading into the final week of the 2020 Texas high school football regular season.

Interestingly, the most compelling game of the week happened to be a makeup non-district clash where the Class 3A, Division I defending state champion and second-ranked Grandview Zebras edged previously undefeated Class 4A, DII’s Glen Rose, 31-28, last Friday night while three other District 7-3A, DI teams – the West Trojans, the Dallas Madison Trojans and the Maypearl Panthers – clinched playoff berths with convincing wins.

In the meantime, almost everything remained up for grabs in District 11-3A, DI as the co-leading Lorena Leopards crushed Caldwell, 48-14, while the co-leading Rockdale Tigers overcame the Troy Trojans, 46-38, to set up a district title showdown in the final game of the season. The McGregor Bulldogs remained in the driver’s seat for a playoff spot with a 24-16 victory over perennial powerhouse Cameron Yoe.

In District 5-3A, DII, the Comanche Indians will played for a postseason spot this week despite a 27-14 loss to Jacksboro, while the Clifton Cubs will play a do-or-die game in Week 11 coming off a 47-0 loss to seventh-ranked and district champion Franklin in District 13-3A, DII.
