WEEK 10: Key district clashes resolved almost all of the Class 2A postseason berths, but positioning for the playoffs still to be decided
All but one playoff spot in six Class 2A district across the Heart of Texas already determined, teams will be battling for positioning going into the postseason tournament.
After clinching the District 7-2A, DI title with a 27-20 victory over the playoff-bound Bosqueville Bulldogs in Week 9, the Class 2A, DI’s seventh-ranked Crawford Pirates remained undefeated with a forfeited victory over the Itasca Wampus Cats. Bosqueville secured second place with a 57-35 win over the third place Tolar Rattlers, while the Rio Vista Eagles clinched a postseason berth with a 30-19 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Thanks to on-again, off-again Covid-19 precautions in District 10-2A, DII, one playoff spot remains up for grabs due to makeup games on tap this week.
Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked and three-time defending state champion Mart Panthers wrapped up the district title with two wins last week, knocking off Wortham, 63-0, last Monday night before posting a convincing 76-6 win over the second place Hubbard Jaguars last Saturday.
Despite turning their program around this season, the young upstart Meridian Yellowjackets saw their District 8-2A, DII postseason hopes dissolve with a 75-25 loss to playoff-bound Santo, while the Hico Tigers head to the playoffs after wrapping up the regular season with a forfeit win over Ranger.
