Class 2A, DII’s three-time defending state champion Mart begins quest for another title, while DII’s 7th-ranked Crawford hopes to rebound from Covid cancellation

THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Matchups presents the Class 2A Bi-District football playoff matchups from across the Heart of Texas region.

In Class 2A, Division I postseason action, the seventh-ranked Crawford Pirates (9-1) hope to shake off sitting out their regular season finale due to Covid-19 precautions when they take on Kerens (4-6) at 7 p.m. Friday at Whitney’s Wildcat Stadium.

The District 7-2A, DII runner-up Bosqueville Bulldogs (6-3) draw a favorable Bi-District matchup against Marlin (4-4) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Waco ISD Stadium, the third-place Tolar Rattlers take on Dawson ay 7 p.m. Thursday at Alvarado’s Head Stadium, while the Rio Vista Eagles (7-3) face District 8-2A, DI champion Italy (9-1) at 7 p.m. at Lacy Lakeview’s Peoples Stadium.

In Class 2A, DII playoff matchups, the three-time defending state champion Mart Panthers (9-0) leap into the postseason undefeated and poised to take on Cumby (2-4) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Malakoff’s Tiger Stadium, while District 10-2A, DII’s third place Hubbard Jaguars (6-3) will face Simms Bowie (6-4) at 2 p.m. Saturday at Princeton’s Hendrix Stadium.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Hico Tigers (3-7) will hit the road to face fourth-ranked perennial powerhouse Windthorst (9-1) in a Bi-District matchup at 7 p.m. Friday at Windthorst’s Trojan Field. Hico advanced to the postseason after suffering through a winless season in 2019.
