WEEK 11: Final pieces to the playoff puzzle fall into place for Class 2A as several Heart of Texas teams hope to make a deep run in the postseason

With only one playoff spot in six Class 2A district across the Heart of Texas needing to be determined in the final week of the 2020 Texas high school regular season, teams battled it out for positioning going into the postseason tournament.

Covid precautions forced the Class 2A, DI’s seventh-ranked Crawford Pirates to take a forfeit in their season finale at the Valley Mills Eagles after clinching the District 7-2A, DI title with a 27-20 victory over the playoff-bound district runner-up Bosqueville Bulldogs in Week 9.

On the flip side, the Tolar Rattlers secured third place with a forfeited win over the Itasca Wampus Cats, while the playoff-bound fourth place Rio Vista Eagles remained idle with an open week. In the district’s only live action on the field, Bosqueville closed on the regular season with a resounding 49-14 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Although they will not be advancing to the postseason, the Bruceville-Eddy Eagles wrapped up the regular season with a thrilling 26-25 victory over the Rosebud-Lott Cougars in District 12-2A, DI.

Despite playing in a district forced to deal with Covid-19 precautions throughout the season, Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked and three-time defending state champion Mart Panthers wrapped up the District 10-2A, DII title and closed out the regular season schedule undefeated a week early.

On the other hand, the Bremond Tigers needs a 59-28 season finale victory over the third place Hubbard Jaguars to clinch the district’s runner-up spot, while Chilton crushed Wortham 44-14 to claim the district’s final postseason berth.
