WEEK 11: Playoff picture takes shape with wild finish for Class 3A squads in the Heart of Texas, but defending champion Grandview still looks like team to beat
Although three of the four Class 4A district titles and eight postseason berths in the Heart of Texas were already wrapped up heading into the final week of the 2020 Texas high school football regular season, there were still some exciting moments last week.
The Class 3A, Division I defending state champion and second-ranked Grandview Zebras tied up an undefeated regular season with a convincing 52-17 victory over playoff-bound Dallas Maidson in District 7-3A, Division I action. The West Trojans benefitted by leaping over Madison for the runner-up spot with a 27-14 win over the Maypearl Panthers.
As anticipated, District 11-3A, DI provided an exciting finish Lorena Leopards edged the Rockdale Tigers, 49-42, in a head-to-head battle for the district title. The loss dropped Rockdale down to third as the McGregor Bulldogs survived a tough road trip with knock off Caldwell, 49-41.
In District 5-3A, DII, the Comanche Indians captured the runner-up spot with a dominating 52-14 home victory over Merkel. Jacksboro dropped into third place with a 35-26 loss at playoff-bound Millsap.
And in District 13-3A, DII, the Clifton Cubs saw their run of six straight trips to the postseason come to an end as Lexington eliminated Clifton, 47-12, in a do-or-die game showdown for the district’s final playoff berth.
