THE SPORTS BUZZ Gridiron Matchups presents the Class 2A football State Quarterfinal matchups from across the state of Texas.
It took a remarkable comeback to produce the Class 2A, Division I State Quarterfinal matchup many high school football fans in the Heart of Texas wanted to see.
Trailing 20-0 late in the second quarter against fifth-ranked Lindsay, the District 7-2A, DI runner-up Bosqueville Bulldogs (9-3) responded to shock the previously undefeated Knights (11-1), 21-20, last Friday night in Aledo.
Bosqueville quarterback Luke Bradshaw threw three touchdown passes to Jay King, Ryder Roark and Larson Hoffmeyer after Lindsay dominated the Bulldogs for most of the first half.
In the meantime, the District 7-2A, DI champion and seventh-ranked Crawford Pirates (12-1) dominated the Alvord Bulldogs, 55-13, last Friday night at Charles Head Stadium in Alvarado to set up the Regional Final showdown with district rival Bosqueville.
Crawford controlled the ball and the game with its vaunted ground attack as Pirate running back Garrett Pearson rushed for three touchdowns while quarterback Tanner Merenda and running back Breck Chambers ran for a pair of scores apiece in the blowout win.
With their only loss coming to a COVID-related forfeit to Valley Mills, the Pirates get the mustc-anticipated district title rematch with Bosqueville in a State Quarterfinal showdown at 7 p.m. at Midway Panther Stadium in Hewitt.
Continuing their dominating drive through the Class 2A, DII Bi-District playoffs, the three-time defending state champion Mart Panthers (12-0) shredded West Sabine (7-5), 66-18, last Friday night in Crockett’s Driskell Stadium.
Roddrell Freeman accounted for four scores while Klyderion Campbell rushed for three touchdowns as the Panthers advance to the State Quarterfinals to take on Tenaha (10-2) at 7 p.m. Friday at Athens’ Bruce Field.
