With Heart of Texas Class 3A, 2A & 1A district schedules in full swing under the Friday night lights, The Sports Buzz Game of the Week features Cranfills Gap visiting Walnut Springs in six-man opener
As we head into Week 7 of the 2021 Texas high school football season, the district schedules for Class 3A, 2A and 1A squads will be in full swing across the Heart of Texas with some races already beginning to take shape.
Under the Friday night lights, THE SPORTS BUZZ Game of the Week will turn its focus on the all-Bosque County District 12-1A, Division II six-man football battle as the youthful challenger Cranfills Gap Lions (3-3) visit 2020 district runner-up Walnut Springs Hornets (2-4) at 7 p.m. Thursday in the district opener for both teams. The Sports Buzz On The Air will be on location in Walnut Springs shooting video highlights and interviewing the winning coach to be posted Saturday.
In other Heart of Texas six-man action, the Bluff Dale Bobcats (4-1) open district by hitting the road to take on Class 1A, DII’s top-ranked Strawn Greyhounds (6-0), and the DI Evant Elks (4-2) host DII’s 11th-ranked Gordon Longhorns (4-1) in one of the few remaining non-district matchups.
In Class 2A action, DI’s fourth-ranked Crawford Pirates (1-0, 5-0) host the surprising co-leading Hamilton Bulldogs (2-0, 5-1) in an early District 7-2A, DI showdown, while Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart Panthers (5-0) will be challenged by the visiting and undefeated Chilton Pirates (4-0) in the District 10-2A, DII opener.
But when it comes to Class 3A action, it appears to be offering a series of potential district mismatches as Class 3A, DI’s seventh-ranked West Trojans (2-0, 6-0) visit the Dallas A+ Academy Knights (0-1, 1-4), the eighth-ranked Grandview Zebras (2-0, 5-1) travel to Dallas to take on the Madison Trojans (0-2, 2-4), while the 10th-ranked Lorena Leopards will have an open date as District 11-3A, DI play begins.
In Division II, the Clifton Cubs (0-2, 0-6) will try to stay in contention when they hit the road to face the Florence Buffaloes (0-1, 3-2) in District 13-3A, DII, while the third place Riesel Indians (1-1, 3-2) play host to the Lexington Eagles (0-1, 2-3).

Once again this season, THE SPORTS BUZZ will provide award-winning coverage of the 2021 Texas high school football season, focusing on Class 3A, 2A and 1A schools in the 10-county Heart of Texas region — which includes Bosque, Comanche, Coryell, Erath, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Johnson, McLennan and Somervell counties.
