Led by the defending national champion and No. 1 seed Baylor Bears, five of six Texas schools advance into the second round of the NCAA Tournament

After two Texas colleges reached the Final Four in the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship Tournament, the Lone Star State schools enjoyed success in the first round of the 2022 March Madness event as five of six teams advanced into the second round.

With that success in mind, it’s hard to imagine that Texas failed to send a representative to college basketball’s signature event not long ago as no teams were selected for the 2013 tournament.

No. 1 BAYLOR 85, No. 16 NORFOLK STATE 49 – The defending champions Baylor dominated Norfolk State in the first round of the 2022 NCAA tournament, winning 85-49. Watch the March Madness extended highlights from Baylor’s victory here:

No. 9 TEXAS CHRISTIAN 69, No. 8 SETON HALL 42 – TCU starts out hot in the 2022 NCAA tournament after defeating Seton Hall in the first round. The Horned Frogs outscore the Pirates by 18 in the second half to secure a trip to the round of 32. TCU was led by Mike Miles with 21 points. Watch the March Madness extended highlights here:

No. 6 TEXAS 81, No. 11 VIRGINIA TECH 73 – Posting their first NCAA tournament win since 2014, the No. 6 seed Texas Longhorns outlasted No. 11 seed Virginia Tech in the first round of the 2022 NCAA tournament Friday. Andrew Jones finished with 21 points for the Longhorns (22-11), who had five players score in double figures. Watch the March Madness extended highlights here:

No. 5 HOUSTON 82, No. 12 UAB 68 – Houston cruised past UAB in the first round of the 2022 NCAA tournament, 82-68, behind 25 points from Kyler Edwards. Watch the March Madness extended highlights here:

No. 3 TEXAS TECH 97, No. 14 MONTANA STATE 62 – Texas Tech erupted for 97 points in a victory over Montana State in the first round of the 2022 men’s NCAA tournament, the largest margin of victory in a tournament game in program history for the Red Raiders. No. 1 KANSAS 83, No. 16 TEXAS SOUTHERN 56 – Kansas jumped out to a 47-19 halftime lead and never looked back, rolling past Texas Southern and into the second round of the 2022 NCAA tournament, 83-56. Watch the March Madness extended highlights here:

FIRST FOUR ROUND

TEXAS SOUTHERN 76, TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI 67 – In the opening First Four matchup of the 2022 NCAA men’s basketball tournament, Texas Southern bested Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 76-67, to set up a date with No. 1 seed Kansas in the first round. Watch the March Madness extended highlights here:
