Winning their fourth straight, the Cooper Rush-led Cowboys dominate defending Super Bowl champ Rams; Texans score late to break defense stalemate for victory over Jaguars

For the first time in the 2022 National Football League season, both franchises from the Lone Star State walked off the field winners. Continuing to ride the hot hand of backup quarterback Cooper Rush, the Dallas Cowboys traveled to Los Angeles and dominated the defending Super Bowl champion Rams for their fourth straight victory. Also on the road, the Houston Texans finally finished a game to post their first win of the season.

DALLAS Cowboys 22, at LOS ANGELES Rams 10

Behind an inspired and dominating defensive performance, the Dallas Cowboys dismantled the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, 22-10, Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

On the third play of the game, Dallas’ Dorance Armstrong forced a fumble and DeMarcus Lawrence scooped it up to score from 19 yards out to put the Cowboys up early. And ultimately, the Dallas defense sealed the deal when Malik Hooker picked off Ram quarterback Matthew Stafford with 3:29 remaining.

In between, the Cowboys (4-1) produced enough offense to control the game and earn their fourth straight victory led by backup quarterback Cooper Rush, filling in for the injured Dak Prescott. Rush completed 10 of 16 passes for 102 yards while Dallas controlled the game with an effective rushing attack. Tony Pollard gave the Cowboys a lead they never relinquished with a 57-yards scoring scamper and finished with a game-high 86 yards rushing while Ezekiel Elliott grinded for 78 yards on 22 carries.

The Rams (2-3) outgained Dallas, 323-239, in total offensive yards, but Stafford tossed an interception and coughed up two fumbles while the Cowboys sacked him five times, led by Micah Parsons with two.

HOUSTON Texans 13, at JACKSONVILLE Jaguars 6

Finally giving new head coach Lovie Smith his first win of the season, the Houston Texans broke a defensive stalemate to slip past the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Fla.

Running back Dameon Pierce rushed for 99 yards and what proved to be the game-winning touchdown with 6:48 left in the game as the Texans (1-3-1) finally found the win column after several near misses by beating Jacksonville (2-3) for the ninth straight time.

Despite producing only 248 yards of total offense, Houston overcame surrendering 422 yards to the Jaguars with two turnovers and holding Jacksonville to only two field goals. In fact, the turning point of the game may have come early in the second half when rookie Derek Stingley, Jr. picked off Jaguar quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the end zone. Lawrence completed 25 of 47 passes for 286 yards but uncorked two interceptions.
