With some familiar names ranked in the state’s top 10, the Heart of Texas places eight teams among the pre-season polls elite
Going into the opening weekend of the 2023 Texas high school football season, eight Heart of Texas squads begin among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 3A, 2A and 1A.
Heart of Texas teams in Class 3A, DI include the sixth-ranked Lorena Leopards and the ninth-ranked Grandview Zebras; Class 2A, DI includes the fifth-ranked Tolar Rattlers and the eighth-ranked Crawford Pirates; the perennial powerhouse Mart Panthers rank second in Class 2A, DII; the Abbott Panthers hold down the third spot while the Jonesboro Eagles come in at fifth in Class 1A, DI, and the Oglesby Tigers begins the season as the second-ranked team in Class 1A, DII.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has published the state’s most respected Texas high school football rankings for decades, and became the official rankings provider for the Associated Press starting in 2019. The rankings are compiled by the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football staff, and weekly rankings are revealed live on “Texas Football Today” every Monday at 12:15 p.m. at TexasFootball.com/Live.
