One team dropped out of the Top 10, while others moved up as the Heart of Texas claims eight teams among the elite in the state polls
Just one week into the 2023 Texas high school football season, nine Heart of Texas teams rank among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.
The defending state champion China Spring Cougars (1-0) remain atop the Class 4A, Division I state rankings, while the Stephenville Yellowjackets (0-1) dropped back two spots to No. 6 going into Week 2 after losing to Class 5A, DII’s seventh-ranked Midlothian Heritage, 31-28. In Class 4A, DII, the Waco Connally Cadets (1-0) move up two spots to No. 7.
Heart of Texas teams in Class 3A, DI include the previously sixth-ranked Lorena Leopards (0-1) dropped out of the poll after getting dominated by China Spring, 35-14, while and the Grandview Zebras (1-0) moved up a spot to No. 8. And in Class 3A, DII, the Comanche Indians (1-0) broke into the poll at No. 10 after thrashing Brady, 37-8.
Class 2A, DI includes the third-ranked Tolar Rattlers (1-0) moved up two spots and the seventh-ranked Crawford Pirates (1-0) jumped a spot after Week 1; the perennial powerhouse Mart Panthers (1-0) held on to second in Class 2A, DII.
In six-man football, the Abbott Panthers (1-0) moved up one spot to second while the Jonesboro Eagles (1-0) jumped two spots to third in Class 1A, DI, and the Oglesby Tigers (1-0) remained the second-ranked team in Class 1A, DII.
