While one team dropped out of the state’s Top 10, others moved up as the Heart of Texas claims nine teams among the elite in the Class 3A, 2A & 1A districts
As the 2023 Texas high school football season moves into its second week, nine teams from across the Heart of Texas not only look like frontrunners in their respective district, they could be on the verge of challenging for state championships.
Heart of Texas teams in Class 3A, DI include the previously sixth-ranked Lorena Leopards (0-1) dropped out of the poll after getting dominated by Class 4A, Division II defending state champion China Spring, 35-14, while and the Grandview Zebras (1-0) moved up a spot to No. 8. And in Class 3A, DII, the Comanche Indians (1-0) broke into the poll at No. 10 after thrashing Brady, 37-8.

Class 2A, DI includes the third-ranked Tolar Rattlers (1-0) moved up two spots and the seventh-ranked Crawford Pirates (1-0) jumped a spot after Week 1; the perennial powerhouse Mart Panthers (1-0) held on to second in Class 2A, DII.

In six-man football, the Abbott Panthers (1-0) moved up one spot to second while the Jonesboro Eagles (1-0) jumped two spots to third in Class 1A, DI, and the Oglesby Tigers (1-0) remained the second-ranked team in Class 1A, DII.
