RISING AT THE TOP: WEEK 2

With some familiar programs ranked in the state’s top 10, the Heart of Texas teams hold down 10 places among the elite in the polls

Coming out of the opening weekend of the 2024 Texas high school football season, 10 Heart of Texas squads remain among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.

Heart of Texas teams entering the season among the state’s best include Class 4A, Division I’s top-ranked Stephenville Yellowjackets (1-0), Class 4A, DII’s second-ranked Glen Rose Tigers (1-0) and eighth-ranked Waco La Vega Pirates (1-0), Class 3A, DI’s 10th-ranked Grandview Zebras (0-1), and Class 2A, DII’s fourth-ranked Mart Panthers (0-1).

Teams ranked in the six-man football Top 10 include Class 1A, DI’s second-ranked Abbott Panthers (1-0) and third-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (1-0), along with Class 1A, DII’s third-ranked Oglesby Tigers (0-1), seventh-ranked Iredell Dragons (0-1) and eighth-ranked Sidney Eagles (0-1).

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has published the state’s most respected Texas high school football rankings for decades, and became the official rankings provider for the Associated Press starting in 2019. The rankings are compiled by the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football staff, and weekly rankings are revealed live on “Texas Football Today” every Monday at 12:15 p.m. at TexasFootball.com/Live.
