With two new teams moving into the state’s top 10 rankings, the Heart of Texas now claims 10 places among the elite in the polls
Moving into the fifth week of the 2024 Texas high school football season, two new Heart of Texas squads moved into the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.
Coming out of the first four weekends of the season, the Heart of Texas region claimed 10 teams among the state’s best, including Class 4A, Division I’s top-ranked Stephenville Yellowjackets (4-0), Class 4A, DII’s eighth-ranked Glen Rose Tigers (3-1) dropping six spots with a 49-42 loss to the Robinson Rockets (3-1), who made their first appearance in the poll at No. 7, and Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart Panthers (2-1) coming off a open date before embarking on district competition.
Teams ranked in the six-man football Top 10 include Class 1A, DI’s second-ranked Abbott Panthers (4-0), sixth-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (3-1), and the eighth-ranked Aquilla Cougars (4-0) climbing into the poll for the first time following a 52-6 victory over Milford.
In the Class 1A, DII poll, fourth-ranked Iredell Dragons (3-1) posted an impressive 54-8 victory over Gorman, fifth-ranked Oglesby Tigers (2-2) eased to a 60-12 win over Waco Methodist Children’s Home, while sixth-ranked Sidney Eagles (3-1) held its spot with a 56-30 victory over Bluff Dale.
