GRIDIRON GRADES: WEEK 8

With seven weeks of the 2024 Texas high school football season in the books, check out the current records, Week 7 scores & Week 8 schedules for Class 3A, 2A & 1A teams across the Heart of Texas region

Across the Heart of Texas, the Class 3A, 2A and 1A six-man football launched into a full slate of district matchups during the seventh weekend of the 2024 Texas high school football season under the Friday night lights.

So with that in mind, check out the current team records for football programs across the 10-county Heart of Texas region, along with last week’s scores and the upcoming Week 8 schedule.

Moving into the eighth week of the 2024 Texas high school football season, seven Heart of Texas squads rank among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 3A, 2A and 1A, where 42 regional teams battle in 16 districts across the three classifications.

Although the region still does not have a state-ranked team in Class 3A, the Class 2A, DI’s Hamilton Bulldogs (6-0) held on to its spot at No. 10 with a hard-fought 21-14 victory over winless Coleman, while Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart Panthers (5-1) handed the Wortham Bulldogs a 36-6 defeat.

Teams ranked in the six-man football Top 10 include Class 1A, DI’s second-ranked Abbott Panthers (6-0) idle last week, sixth-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (5-1) posting an overwhelming 58-13 victory over Miami, and the eighth-ranked Aquilla Cougars (7-0) remaining undefeated with a solid 50-28 victory over Coolidge.

In the Class 1A, DII poll, Iredell Dragons (5-2) moved up a spot to No. 7 with a resounding 60-0 win over the Morgan Eagles (2-5), while the Oglesby Tigers (5-2) solidified its hold on the No. 3 spot with a commanding 42-0 victory over Mullin.
