RISING TO THE TOP: WEEK 9

With teams solidifying spots among the state’s top 10 rankings, the Heart of Texas still claims nine places among the elite in the polls

Moving into the ninth week of the 2024 Texas high school football season, nine Heart of Texas squads held their own among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.

Coming out of the first eight weekends of the season, the Heart of Texas region claims nine teams among the state’s best, including Class 4A, Division I’s Stephenville Yellowjackets (6-1) held on to No. 4 with a 63-0 victory over Marble Falls, while Class 4A, DII’s sixth-ranked Robinson Rockets (6-1) held firm with a solid 42-29 victory over Waco Connally Cadets (4-3).

Although the region still does not have a state-ranked team in Class 3A, the Class 2A, DI’s Hamilton Bulldogs (7-0) held on to its spot at No. 10 by remaining undefeated with a convincing 35-13 victory over Ballinger, while Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart Panthers (6-1) posted an overwhelming 82-0 win over the Hubbard Jaguars (1-6).

Teams ranked in the six-man football Top 10 include Class 1A, DI’s second-ranked Abbott Panthers (7-0) springing past Coolidge, 54-6, sixth-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (5-1) getting an open week before starting district play, and the eighth-ranked Aquilla Cougars (7-0) remaining undefeated with a resounding 48-0 victory over the Gholson Wildcats (2-5).

In the Class 1A, DII poll, Iredell Dragons (6-2) held on at No. 7 with a hard-fought 83-36 win over the Bluff Dale Bobcats (4-4), while the Oglesby Tigers (6-2) remained at No. 3 spot after a forfeited win over the Cranfills Gap Lions (0-8).
