RISING TO THE TOP: WEEK 10

With squads solidifying spots among the state’s top 10 rankings, the Heart of Texas holds onto eight places among the elite in the polls

Moving into the 10th week of the 2024 Texas high school football season, nine Heart of Texas squads held their own among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.

Coming out of the first nine weekends of the season, the Heart of Texas region claims eight teams among the state’s best, including Class 4A, Division I’s Stephenville Yellowjackets (7-1) held on to No. 4 with a 42-31 victory over Lampasas, while Class 4A, DII’s previously sixth-ranked Robinson Rockets (6-2) dropped out of the poll with a solid 35-22 loss to Waco La Vega (5-3).

Although the region still does not have a state-ranked team in Class 3A, the Class 2A, DI’s Hamilton Bulldogs (8-0) held on to its spot at No. 10 by remaining undefeated with a overwhelming 46-8 victory over Bangs, while Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart Panthers (7-1) posted an dominating 54-0 win over the Meridian Yellowjackets (1-7).

Teams ranked in the six-man football Top 10 include Class 1A, DI’s second-ranked Abbott Panthers (8-0) springing past Gholson, 66-6, sixth-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (6-1) knocked off Lometa, 54-8, and the Aquilla Cougars (9-0) moved up a spot to No. 7 by remaining undefeated with a resounding 58-0 victory over the Penelope Wolverines (5-3).

In the Class 1A, DII poll, Iredell Dragons (7-2) held on at No. 7 with a convincing 70-24 win over the Kopperl Eagles (4-3), while the Oglesby Tigers (7-2) remained at No. 3 spot after a 68-0 victory over the Priddy Pirates (1-6).

The rankings are compiled by the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football staff, and weekly rankings are revealed live on “Texas Football Today” every Monday at 12:15 p.m. at TexasFootball.com/Live.
