RISING TO THE TOP: WEEK 11

With squads solidifying spots among the state’s top 10 rankings, the Heart of Texas claims nine places among the elite in the polls

Moving into the final weekend of the 2024 Texas high school football regular season, nine Heart of Texas squads held their own among the state’s Top 10 teams in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A.

Coming out of the first 10 weekends of the season, the Heart of Texas region claims nine teams among the state’s best, including Class 4A, Division I’s Stephenville Yellowjackets (8-1) held on to No. 4 with a resounding 44-0 victory over Brownwood while Class 4A, DII’s previously-unranked Waco La Vega Pirates (6-3) makes their first appearance in the Top 10 coming off a 31-0 win over Waco Connally Cadets (5-4).

Although the region still does not have a state-ranked team in Class 3A, the Class 2A, DI’s Hamilton Bulldogs (9-0) held on to its spot at No. 10 by remaining undefeated with a dominating 36-0 victory over the Hico Tigers (5-4), while Class 2A, DII’s top-ranked Mart Panthers (8-1) posted an overwhelming 72-8 win over the Frost Polar Bears (4-5).

Teams ranked in the six-man football Top 10 include Class 1A, DI’s second-ranked Abbott Panthers (9-0) crushed Penelope, 48-0, sixth-ranked Jonesboro Eagles (7-1) knocked off Santa Anna, 70-18, and the Aquilla Cougars (9-0) held onto No. 7 with an open week.

In the Class 1A, DII poll, Iredell Dragons (7-2) held on at No. 7 with a convincing 61-23 win over the previously-unbeated Three Way Braves (8-1), while the Oglesby Tigers (7-2) remained at No. 3 spot during an idle date in the schedule.

The rankings are compiled by the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football staff, and weekly rankings are revealed live on “Texas Football Today” every Monday at 12:15 p.m. at TexasFootball.com/Live.
