Here’s the complete Area Playoff schedule for Class 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A & 1A teams in the Heart of Texas region and around Central Texas as the 2024 Texas high school football season moves into the second round of postseason tournament.

On location in Hico this weekend, THE SPORTS BUZZ On The Air features the back-to-back District 11-1A, Division II champions and seventh-ranked Iredell Dragons (9-2) will take on the eighth-ranked and perennial powerhouse Strawn Greyhounds (9-2) in a Class 1A, DII Area Playoff showdown at 7 p.m. Friday at Hico’s historic Tiger Stadium for THE SPORTS BUZZ Game of the Week.
The Dragons made quick work of the Bynum Bulldogs, 59-14, in a Bi-District playoff matchup last Friday night at Waco Methodist Children’s Home’s Bulldog Field, while Strawn posted an impressive 76-6 Bi-District playoff win over the Fannindel Falcons last Thursday night in Blum.
Strawn won three state championships in five seasons between 2017-2021, which led the Greyhounds to become the focus of a television series entitled “Texas 6” attempting to achieve a three-peat of the DII six-man football state title.
New this season, THE SPORTS BUZZ On The Air will present one of its weekly 15-minute highlight and interview segments every Sunday at approximately 3:40 p.m., sponsored exclusively by Clifton Feed & Service Center, before the 4 p.m. matinee movie at the historic and beautifully-renovated Cliftex Theatre in Clifton, the longest continuously running movie house in Texas, showing films on the silver screen since 1916.
The Sports Buzz On The Air segment will replay every Thursday at approximately 6:40 p.m. prior to the 7 p.m. feature film at The Cliftex Theatre in Clifton.
Once again this season, THE SPORTS BUZZ will provide award-winning coverage of the 2023 Texas high school football season, focusing on Class 3A, 2A and 1A schools in the 10-county Heart of Texas region — which includes Bosque, Comanche, Coryell, Erath, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Johnson, McLennan and Somervell counties.
